Directed by Susanna Gellert

Bosola, costumed in drag, sings a torch song
to the Duchess just before strangling her.

set was reversed revealing a flimsy theatricality
which the director saw in the actions of
many of the play's characters.

bootleg recording

The actor playing Bosola performed this original
composition along with a recording of the piano
accompaniment, using a simple handheld microphone
which, with it's overtly amplified quality, was
one of the components that we used to telegraph
a deconstruction of theatrical devices
in our production.

Susanna wanted to infuse our long scene changes
with energy and contrast from the action of the play.
We developed a sound palate of trendy Italian pop tunes
that hinted at a contemporaneity and kept the
momentum of the play moving.
